Year 6 Dinner and Dance

The Year 6 Dinner and Dance was on Friday the 26th of October and started at 6pm and went until 9.30pm. The theme for the night was 'A Night In Paris.' To prepare for this night we had practices to learn how to dance three different styles of dances. They were the Cha Cha, Rock n Roll and the Waltz. For some of the decorations we had to make stars and cut them out to then be spray painted silver. Each star had to have nylon put at one end of the star so that it could be hung from the ceiling. One of the decorations was silhouettes that went up around the room. We had to make stencils that were our templates to trace around onto black paper. These were blue tacked around the room, on the walls. Some of us had to blow up around 100 balloons. This was hard on our lungs. For the decorations we all volunteered and participated to get the job done. Firstly for our dinner we had entrees at our tables. This was, very yummy chips, dip, salsa, carrots and crackers. For the main meal we ate scrumptious chicken with a potato bake, coleslaw and a delicious bread bun. Our dessert was mouth-watering ice cream, fruit kebabs with melting marshmallows. The whole night was extravagant and glamorous with all the beautiful dresses and lovely suits. "The food was nice, I loved the chicken. Seconds were as good as the first." By Zian "This was a memorable night and I really liked the dessert." By Shohab "My favourite part of the night was the demonstration dances." By Jada "The food was marvellous." By Kaya "I had lots of fun at the Year 6 Dinner and Dance." By Gloria "This night, I will never forget, especially when toasting the marshmallows over the candles." By Hayden "The time we had there, the place and the food were extraordinary." By Tiana "Extreme. Glamorous. Amazing." By Vaasu "My favourite part of the night was the dessert.” By Seemal “I had lots of fun dancing with my friend.” By Tyreece “I liked the whole glamorous stars hanging above us during the night.” By Shridhanjily “The dance was a wonderful experience.” By Jason “The most fun I had was competing in the dance competition.” By Aria “I liked eating the chicken.” By Ziyaad

Some Duffy Theatre Photo's

Duffy Theatre

This afternoon we watched the amazing Duffy Theatre show. It was fun and interactive where some had to get up and help the actors. Five children got up to be the books, two were the swinging doors, we were the door bell for the door, five were wrapping paper, the front row were rocks in the ocean, and the rest of us were the stormy waves that the boat was sailing across.

Throughout the whole show we learnt about how Reading can be fun and a way to grow our brains.

The whole show was very entertaining.

Here's what some of us thought:

"I liked it when Louie dressed up and acted as a seven year old girl. It was funny. I also really liked it when they changed the song 'Party Rock Anthem' and did 'Everyday I'm Scruffying/Duffying'." From Tiana and Julia.

"I liked it when Louie made a new name for Piri Weepu. He called him Wiri Peepu. He was funny when he said 'Don't be Jelous' too." From Caylis.

"I liked it when Anna was dressed up as a book and pretended that books actually talk." From Ziyaad.

"I liked it when they did the sound effects from behind the screens." From Shohab.

"I liked it when Louie was running after Anna." From Shridhanjily.

"I liked it when James and Louie were beat-boxing and being a robot." From Andrew.

"I liked it when Louie said Nek-Minit." From Kara and Jada.

"I liked it when Scruffy said he was going to make Marvel into a rugby ball." From Dipkesh.

"I liked it when Louie came out and said that he was turning 103 when he was singing the happy birthday song." From Gloria.

"The whole show was very entertaining and had me laughing right the way through." From Mrs Crawford.

Water Properties - Iceburg's

Hi, I'm Prajna and my buddy is Vaasu. In class for our theme everyone had to choose a topic but it had to be about Weather. So Vassu and I looked at water properties. The next step was to ask a question and find facts about it. Our question was 'How does an Iceburg form?' We looked at a couple of resources. These were books from our library corner and the school library. Unfortunately we weren't able to find any facts in these books. Finally we got our answers on the internet. We found out that Iceburg's are calves that break off from larger ice shelves. We also learnt that when the piece of an Iceburg is formed they float on oceans or lakes. One fact that we didn't know was that calves can be formed within seconds. We both hope that you enjoyed reading about Iceburgs and that you learnt something new. By Vaasu and Prajna

A Pirates Adventures

Once upon a time there was an old homeless pirate that had just a ship. He loves sailing around the seven seas. One day a man said to the pirate "Would you like to come and do some tricks at my fair?"
The pirate asked, "What kind of tricks?"
"Just come with me," said the man.
So the pirate went with him to the fair. When they got there the man showed the pirate the wonderful and interesting tricks. The pirate was then escorted to his large, plain room.

The night finally arrived when the pirate had to perform his tricks. He had been practising for months and couldn't wait to show off his amazing tricks.

When he went out onto the stage and did some of his tricks the crowd went wild with excitement. Unfortunately half-way through his performance, a spaceship flew down and landed right smack bang in the middle of his show. The pirate was suddenly faced with 10 green men from outer space...

Come back next time to read what happens to the pirate and the green men.

Speckles' Trip

Last night Speckles went on a trip to Mrs Crawford's house. She had to go and get her nails clipped.
Speckles had so much fun running around the house and Mr Crawford enjoyed his cuddles.

Mrs Crawford has a cat called Jet and she didn't want to be anywhere near Speckles. She just ran away and was scared of her.

EOTC week by Shridhanjily

Last week it was E.O.T.C week. It was lots of fun.
When we were doing frisbees I thought that I stunk at doing the frisbees. When I started doing the frisbee activity I improved and am now a lot better.
Then after 15 minutes, we moved onto the Soccer Olympic. It was so much fun because the other team was too slow and so we shouted for them to hurry up.

Camp by Ziyaad

Something I liked about camp was the Rafts because it taught me to use teamwork and confidence, which helped build up my confidence. I also like the Water Slide because I was like a super fast Cheetah on the water.
Wow the chef was a great cook.
The things I didn't like was the Balance Island and Kayaking. In both of those activities I was like a monkey falling in the water.
Finaly lets get to my changes. These would be using my manners all the time. I learnt that you should listen to all instructions when doing different activities. This is to keep you safe.
I really enjoyed camp.

Camp Photos 2

Camp by Sonali

Hi everyone, here are all the things I liked about camp. First of all I loved the Trolleys. It was fast and fun. It was my first time trying it so it was a bit scary but then it was fun.
My second favourite activity was the Flying Fox. We had to travel across the pond on the Flying Fox and lean back so that we didn't hit the rope onto our face.
My third favourite was Kayaking because I learnt how to push through the water with my paddle and turn left and right, move forward and backwards and control the Kayak.
I really enjoyed my time at camp.

Camp by Ayush

Last week I went to camp for the first time and it was cool. I really liked the Trolleys and the Archery. I only kind of liked the Balance Island. the scary part of camp was that I had to go to the toilets in the middle of the night all by myself. Not cool man!
I thought that Technology challenge would be Technology and more about computers and things but it wasn't. It was all about making things.
The funny part about camp was the first night and I think it was in the middle of the night and all I could hear was snoring coming from others.
I really enjoyed spending time with my friends and being able to do fun things with them.

Camp by Sam

My favourite thing at camp was Trolleys because I liked crashing and it was lots of fun. I also liked Archery because I hit the bullseye. I wouldn't change anything at Chosen Valley because it's so fun. Another thing I liked was the food because it was very yummy.
Camp was so much fun.

Camp by Stephen

I liked all the activities at camp but I like Kayaking and Archery the most because on the kayaks I got to rest and on the Archery course I got to shoot stuff.
The activity I disliked the most was Trolleys and Water Confidence Course because on the Water Confidence Course I got rope burns and lots of them. On the Trolleys I crashed 3 times and the 3rd time I flipped off the trolley, it hurt a lot.
To be honest the only thing I would change would be the size of the cabin and the mattress on the beds. The mattress was really squeaky and very unconfortable to sleep on.
I really enjoyed camp.

Camp by Aria

For our year 6 camp we had to do 11 activities. We all had to be in cabin groups and we needed cabin numbers. We had a parent in our cabin with us. My favourite activity was the Kayaks because I learnt how to paddle and we had a fun challenge. When our activities were finished we had a cold drink, some fruit and two biscuits. Some times we got to have free time on the playground, field and in our cabins. When we went back to school we went into the VW room and waited for our parents to come and pick us up. We all had a tiring day.
Camp was heaps of fun.

Camp by Tyreece

At camp I shared and slept in a cabin with Andrew, Jason, Caylis, Dontae and Stephen. It was lots of fun. We all liked the same activities. The Water Slide was our favourite because we could swim on a hot day. The one I didn't really like was Archery because it took forever for my turn to come.
Camp was lots of fun.

EOTC Week by Seemal

On Monday 27th of February the year 6's went to camp and some people didn't go and I was one of them. I was in D5 with Miss Nola for the week. On Friday 2nd of March we had a 'Have A Go Day' with the year 5's. We did activities like touch rugby, ripper rugby, basketball and number rugby. Then we had morning tea and after the bell we went and finished doing the activities we missed. When we finished all the activities we went back to the class and watched a movie for the rest of the afternoon.

Camp by Kara

At camp I enjoyed doing all the activities, they were fun. The activity I enjoyed most of all was the Water Slide because I pretended to drown then Mr Tavita jumped in to save me. Everyone laughed and cheered that he jumped into the water and made a big splash!

The activity I didn't like was the Flying Fox because you get big, big, BIG WEDGIES!
But the activities were all fun. The chefs were good cooks and the food was really yummy.

Camp was heaps of fun.

EOTC week by Alvin

Last week at school it was kind of cool but when I got home my mum and dad had gone to Fiji. On Friday I was sick and missed out on the Have A Go Day which was sad.

Camp by Tiana

My camp week was one of the best weeks of my life. My favourite activity was the Water Slide because I have never been on one before. My activity that I did not like was the Technology Challenge because my hat kept falling apart and it was a pain to keep it together. I did the rafts, water slide, kayaks and archery. I think Chosen Valley is a good place to try new things.

Camp By Zian

My highlight for camp was the Water Slide. I liked the Water Slide because you feel like you are getting slapped in the face when you hit the water.
My low light for camp was leaving camp after the lovely week. I enjoyed our last lunch at camp which was pizza. I am going to miss Chosen Valley!
The changes I would make at camp is that I would like to have more snack times and also I would like to have more time in my cabin with my friends.
Camp was lots of fun.

Camp by Jason

At camp we did lots of activities like Kayaks, Balance Island, Water Slide, Flying Fox, Rafts, Water Confidence Course and Trolleys. I liked the Balance Island because when we did the race I sort of couldn't balance on it properly. Andrew fell off his Kayak which was pretty funny. My favourite activity was the Water Slide because when you slide down it goes kind of fast. When we did the Water Slide it was a hot day which was nice to be in the cold water. When I was waiting for another turn, it was cold, so I wrapped myself with my towel to keep me warm.
Camp was a lot of fun.

Camp Week

Hi again,
we have just arrived back from camp and want to tell you about it.
In the following posts you will read about the fun and interesting things that everyone did last week.
Enjoy reading about it all and please post any comments you like. We will get back to you as soon as Mrs Crawford lets us.
Take a look at some of the photo's we have from camp.
Enjoy!
